Despacito was first released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017, and quickly became the number one streamed track in just 6 months. The single Despacito which was a mix of pop music with reggaeton, not only brought new interest to reggaeton but also increased interest in Latin music. The Billboard Top 100 in 2015 had two songs that were mostly Spanish language, while 2016 saw four. But during the peak of Despacito's fame in the year 2017, there were 19 predominantly Spanish tracks that made the Top 100. Then in 2020 the number was 41. Justin Bieber remixed Despacito 2017 as a bilingual rendition. Then, various artists collaborated with reggaeton superstars like Drake and Bad Bunny with MIA (2018), Madonna and Maluma with Medellin 2019. Certain reggaeton performers lamented the trend towards mainstream music in the year 2020. But a new group, Rauw Alejandro was determined to keep the development and growth of reggaeton. He incorporated electronic dance styles and other genres into his songs.
